Collective Crafting: Panelsamtal och mingel

Som en uppvärmning till Stockholm Craft Week (6-9 oktober) välkomnar vi dig att delta i ett föredrag av fem lokala och internationella yrkesverksamma inom konst, hantverk, arkitektur och design som kommer att ge sina perspektiv på kollektivt hantverk och har ett korspollinerande samtal.

Medverkande: Amanda Pinatih, James Taylor-Foster, Maria Ragnestam, Sarah Darro, Zoe Black, moderator: Veronika Muráriková.

Under de senaste åren inom konsthantverksrörelsen har efterfrågan på transdisciplinärt samarbete och konstnärlig forskning intensifierats. Med pågående teknologisk acceleration och postkoloniala diskurser bryts de stela uppdelningarna av discipliner upp, vilket gör utövare och konstnärer förvirrade och ibland utan gemenskap.

Hur kan vi genom kollektivt hantverk – oavsett om det är genom meningsfulla samtal, stödjande grupperingar eller genom att utveckla tillgängliga platser – fortsätta att omkontextualisera och undergräva nuvarande maktstrukturer? Är korspollinering en produktiv metod för att genomföra dessa förändringar, och varför? Vilka är möjligheterna och hur kan vi se på möjliga framtider för konst/hantverk?

Evenemanget är initierat av Undisciplined. Crafting Conversations i samarbete med IASPIS.

James Taylor-Foster är författare och kulturkritiker med arkitektbakgrund, verksam som curator vid ArkDes.

Maria Ragnestam är curator, projektledare och föreläsare baserad i Kiruna. Som operativ utvecklare för Konstfrämjandet Norrbotten har hon övergripande ansvar för Luleåbiennalen och har tidigare lett utvecklingen av Konstmuseet i Norr.

Sarah Darro är curator, författare, antropolog och chef för Center for Craft, i North Carolina. Darro arbetar i gränslandet mellan samtida konst, hantverk och design. Sarah Darro är inbjuden till Sverige genom IASPIS expertbesöksprogram.

Zoe Black (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine, Pākehā) är curator och biträdande direktör för Objectspace, ett galleri för konsthantverk, arkitektur och design, i Aotearoa på Nya Zeeland. Zoe Black är Curator in Residence hos Norwegian Crafts 2020-2022.

Undisciplined. Crafting Conversations är en podcast utvecklad av Veronika Muráriková i samarbete med den Amsterdambaserade tidningen Current Obsession. Podd-serien dokumenterar transdisciplinära konst- och hantverksmetoder. Under Stockholm Craft Week lanseras Social Clubs – en rad informella och djupgående samtal, runt om i Stockholm.

As a warm-up event to Stockholm Craft Week (October 6-9) we welcome you to take part of a talk by five local and international professionals across art, craft, architecture, and design who will give their perspectives on collective crafting and have a cross-pollinating conversation.

In recent years within the art/craft movement the call for transdisciplinary collaboration and artistic research has intensified. With ongoing technological acceleration and postcolonial discourses, the rigid divisions of disciplines are being disrupted, leaving makers and artists confused and at times community-less.

How can we, through collective crafting- whether it be through meaningful conversations, supporting communities, or developing accessible spaces- continue recontextualising and subverting current power structures?  Is cross-pollination a productive methodology in executing these changes, and why? What is the potential and possible futures for art/craft?

The event is organised by Undiciplined. Crafting Conversations in collaboration with IASPIS.

Amanda Pinatih is a design curator at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam where she gives the large design collection new perspectives. Through exhibitions and projects, she addresses today’s social, political, decolonial, environmental and economic issues. Amanda Pinatih is invited to Sweden through IASPIS expert visiting programme.

James Taylor-Foster is a writer and cultural critic with an architectural background. He works as a curator at ArkDes, Stockholm. He has developed several projects in Stockholm, including an exhibition exploring the creative field of ASMR.

Maria Ragnestam is a curator, project manager and lecturer based in Kiruna. As the operational developer for Art Promotion Norrbotten, she has overall responsibility for the Luleå Biennale and has previously led the development of the Art Museum in Norr.

Sarah Darro is a curator, writer and visual anthropologist and gallery director of the Center for Craft, in North Carolina. Darro works in the borderland between contemporary art, craft and design. Sarah Darro is invited to Sweden through IASPIS expert visiting programme.

Zoe Black (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine, Pākehā) is a curator and Associate Director of Objectspace, a gallery for art, architecture and design, in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Black works on projects that seek to create dialogue between indigenous arts and crafts practices in Aotearoa and in Sápmi. Zoe Black is Norwegian Crafts’ Curator in Residence 2020–2022.

Undisciplined. Crafting Conversations is a podcast developed by Veronika Muráriková in collaboration with Amsterdam based magazine Current Obsession. This audio series documents bold and curious transdisciplinary art/craft practices. During Stockholm Craft Week, Undisciplined will launch a series of informal in-depth conversations – Social Clubs that will take place throughout the city of Stockholm.
