Residensstipendiat i Stockholm 1 november 2022 – 25 april 2023

Agnes Mohlin är konstnär, född i Göteborg och sedan 2021 boende i Strömstad. Hon arbetar med skulptur, ofta i avbildande reliefer och assemblage. Tematiskt undersöker hon genom sitt arbete ett myller av relationer; hur världen, samhället och kroppen hänger ihop. Verken kan ses som kroppsliga fragment där handens arbete, tankeprocesserna, materialens agens och organismernas interaktioner samverkar genom olika tider och skeenden. Sten är ett återkommande material, vilket hon själv beskriver som att ”jag arbetar med själva marken, jordskorpan vi står på”. Vatten är också ett viktigt element för henne. Kalksten skapades i havet genom miljonåriga geologiska förlopp med kalkslam och snäckskal. I vår tid bryts stenen ur berget av stenindustrin, vars spillsten konstnären tar vara på och använder för att skulptera. Hennes praktik rör sig dock fritt mellan olika tekniker och material, och i hennes verk möter vi också en rad andra uttryck som foto, teckning och readymades.

Tiden på IASPIS ger Agnes Mohlin möjlighet till fördjupad research. Hon har under sin vistelse bland annat för avsikt att fortsätta ett pågående undersökande av havets och kroppens relationer.

Agnes Mohlin har masterexamen i fri konst från Konstfack i Stockholm (2014) och kandidatexamen i arkitektur från Kunstakademiets arkitektskole i Köpenhamn (2010). Hon har de senaste fem åren haft sin huvudsakliga konstnärliga verksamhet på Konstnärernas kollektivverkstad i Bohuslän (KKV-B) där hon också varit vice ordförande. Hon organiserade tillsammans med konstnären Yoeri Guépin (NL) projekten Soft Rock (2019) och Bed Rock (2021) där internationella grupper om tio respektive åtta internationella konstnärer bjudits in till KKV-B för att under två veckor arbeta med landskapet som sammanhang och material. Hon har ställt ut internationellt och på hemmaplan, både separat och i grupp. Mest aktuellt med separatutställningen Örat mot marken som under oktober 2022 visades på MEGA Foundation i Stockholm. Agnes Mohlin har genomfört tre offentliga gestaltningar, senast 2021 med verket Under i Örebro och 2020 med verket Omsorg om andra i Farsta strand.

Artist in Residence, Stockholm 1 November 2022 – 25 April 2023

Agnes Mohlin is an artist born in Gothenburg and since 2021 based in Strömstad . She works with sculpture, often in figurative reliefs and assemblages. In her art, she thematically explores a myriad of relationships; how the world, society and the body are connected. Her art may be seen as bodily fragments where the work of the hand, thought processes, the materials’ agency and the organisms’ interaction collaborate across different times and events. Stone is a recurring material, which she describes as “I work with the ground itself, the earth’s crust we stand on”. Another important element is water. Limestone was formed in the sea through millions of years of geological processes involving lime sludge and seashells. In our time, limestone is quarried from the rock by the stone industry; the artist collects waste stone which she uses as a material for her sculptures. Her practice, however, moves freely between varying techniques and materials, and in her art we encounter a range of genres such as photography, drawing and readymades.

The IASPIS residency will give Agnes Mohlin the opportunity to carry out in-depth research. She intends to further develop an ongoing exploration of the relationship between the sea and the body.

Agnes Mohlin holds an MA in Fine Art from Konstfack, University of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm (2014) and a BA in Architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen (2010). For the past five years, Mohlin’s main artistic activity has been carried out at the collective workshop KKV-B in Bohuslän where she has also held the position of vice chair. In collaboration with artist Yoeri Guépin (NL), she organised the projects Soft Rock (2019) and Bed Rock (2021), in which groups of ten respectively eight international artists were invited to KKV-B for a period of two weeks to work with the landscape as context and material. Agnes Mohlin has exhibited internationally and domestically, in both group and solo exhibitions. Her most recent one-person show was Örat mot marken, at the MEGA Foundation in Stockholm in October 2022. She has realised three public art interventions, most recently in 2021 with the work Under, in Örebro and Omsorg om andra, in Farsta strand in 2020.
