Artists in Residence, Stockholm, March 1 – May 31, 2023
Dancer/Actor/Musician. Tobias Ulfvebrand was educated at the Royal Swedish Ballet School 1995-2004, studied music at Birkagårdens Folkhögskola 2008-2010 and acting at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts 2012-2015. During the years he’s been active within the music, dance and theatre field, and has been working at Cullberg Ballet, Dramaten, the Royal Opera, Parkteatern, Västmanlandsmusiken and others.
Since 2015 he’s been tied to Dockteatern Tittut in Stockholm, where he’s participated in several productions and played more than 1500 shows – both in Sweden, around Europe and the States. Apart from standing on stage he also choreographed and created the music for the critically acclaimed ”Vill ha hund”.
Tobias was a drummer in the soul band ”Lakitty”, frequently playing the Stockholm club scene in the beginning of the century. He was also a member of the male singing quartet ”Ad Hoc” giving concerts in various historical sites around Sweden between 2007-2016.
Dancer/Composer/Sound designer. Hugo Therkelson was educated at the Royal Swedish Ballet School 1990-1992. He then worked as a dancer at Malmö Ballet, Vienna State Opera and the Royal Swedish Ballet where he retired as 1’st soloist in 2015 after having performed leading roles in ballets by Mats Ek, Nacho Duato, Alexander Ekman, Örjan Andersson, Johan Inger, G Balanchine, J Neumaier, N Makarova among others.
In 2017 he took a bachelor in sound design at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Working within a wide spectrum of genres, Hugo has been composing and creating sound designs for television, film, theatre productions on Estrad Norr, Teater Västernorrland, Dockteatern Tittut and UngScen/öst and made music for choreographers such as Ina Christel Johannessen, Pontus Lidberg and Joakim Stephenson. He is a member of the musical projects Ramverk, Tubo and was previously a member of the pop band Evolver.
Hugo Therkelson and Tobias Ulfvebrand worked together for the first time during the making of the dance and puppeteering performance ”Vill ha hund” at Dockteatern Tittut. With similar experiences from the dance world and a shared interest in how to interact with music, they found a rewarding workflow. Later they were given the opportunity to develop their method and artistic style even further in the new piece ”Snö”, where Tobias and Hugo were dancing, choreographing and composing the music as a team. Both these productions were selected for the BIBU performing arts festival in 2020 and 2022.
The duo, currently existing under the name TUBO, is as of this residency initiating their third production together. ”ORO” is to become a dance and object based performance, reaching out to children age 10-13. Through experimenting with choreography, interactive sound design and dancing puppets, ”ORO”, is going to be performed by four dancers and is looking to get a premiere at Dansens Hus in the fall of 2023, or spring 2024.
