Niklas Holmgren
Studio grant holder in Stockholm 1 april – 30 september 2020
Niklas Holmgren. Born 1974 in Lycksele. Lives and works in: Stockholm.
Niklas Holmgren finished his MFA at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm in 2001. His practice as a painter is characterized by hyperrealistic renditions that alludes to his previous work as a film director and scriptwriter. His evocative tableaus derive as a series of momentary fragments from everyday life, depicting inherent tensions and transient states of mind. As such, a painstaking approach with light and colour becomes a focal point in his practice, which sets out with the feat of unveiling what is generally concealed within.
During his stay at Iaspis he will continue working on a new series of paintings depicting his closest relationships, hereby trying to get even closer to his own reality. By examining a moment in the present, he also hopes to connect with the past.
