Welcome to an open writing workshop at Iaspis! Come and collaborate in the creation of text material to an encyclopedia about women in Swedish Architecture 1960-2015. We will be arranging spontaneous talks and panel discussions during the day as well as serving coffee and buns.

The workshop is arranged by Action Archive with Iaspis grantholders Sara Brolund de Carvalho, Meike Schalk and Helena Mattsson in Collaboration with Iaspis, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s international programme for Visual and Applied Artists.

The forthcoming Encyclopedia of Women in Architecture, 1960-2015 (2021) is an international project which brings together 1200 entries on women active in architecture and adjacent fields to map the ways in which they have shaped the built environment over the last five decades. The project is committed to the representation of areas and women who are often invisible in architectural history and media. We will discuss ethics and politics behind encyclopedic projects (who to include/exclude?), produce a concept for the representation of Sweden together, as well as entries for the project in this collaborative writing workshop. The Swedish contribution to the Encyclopedia is edited by Thérèse Kristiansson, Helena Mattsson, Meike Schalk and Malin Zimm.

Action Archive works with architecture and urban research and have developed a participatory historical writing through collaborative formats, such as participatory action research that bring together diverse actors and a public around urban cultural, historical, and political issues. Action Archives members are Sara Brolund de Carvalho, Meike Schalk and Helena Mattsson.
