- New artists in residence at IASPIS in Stockholm winter 2026

IASPIS welcomes five new artists based in Sweden working in the visual and applied arts fields to the residency program in Stockholm for winter 2026— Maja Fredin, Eric Magassa, Fathia Mohidin & Jin Mustafa and Hampus Jan-Michael.
Maja Fredin, born in Uppsala and based in Stockholm, is an artist whose work is equally rooted in concept and material. Through performance, installation, video, and sound, she constructs conceptual worlds to approach the unfathomable nature of the contemporary human experience. Blending rancid kitsch with profound gravity, glitter with darkness, she opens up reality to interpretation, posing questions about consumerism, desire, decay, and the longing for the unattainable.
Eric Magassa is an artist based in Gothenburg, Sweden, whose practice encompasses collage, painting, photography and video, often combined in multifaceted, large-scale installations. His distinctive, colourful compositions revolve around decolonial narratives and questions of identity, place and belonging. By working with different archives and drawing attention to visual patterns in what is often overlooked, he explores ways of seeing and thinking that in many respects disrupt the narrow aesthetics of the canonised white cube.
Fathia Mohidin and Jin Mustafa’s collaboration emerged from a desire to create a space where their different practices, perspectives, and experiences of sound could come together in an exploratory dialogue. Drawing on mythological and historical ideas about sound, they seek to move beyond conventional notions and dissolve limitations within their ways of thinking, making room for alternative narratives and perspectives.
Hampus Jan-Michael is a visual artist based in Stockholm, working across painting, drawing, collage, and text. His practice explores the relationship between seeing, feeling, and memory. Drawing from personal experiences and relationships, he creates images that move between the autobiographical, art history, popular culture, and contemporary visual imagery.
