Selim Ben Cheikh

Artist in residence, Stockholm, 1 May – 28 May, 2023

Selim Ben Cheikh is an artist who lives and works in Tunis. He works with a wide range of mediums including photography, painting and video. For several years, he’s been exploring the role and significance of the human body, with a focus on the traces it leaves in the creative process. But also with the backdrop of the political and social changes that his country is experiencing.

At IASPIS, Selim will continue a body of work of dry pastel and acrylic spray, to research the concept of traces, erasure, and its relation to dust.

Selim Ben Cheikh graduated from the Institut Superieur des Beaux Arts of Tunis (2003), he obtained a Master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art Sciences from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Paris (2004).

He has participated in several exhibitions and biennials, including: you are not a guest at Galerie El birou, Sousse (2023); UV biennial, Sousse (2018); Dak’art 2018 biennial, Dakar (2018) ; Ijtihad at Ghaya gallery, Tunis (2017).
