Jiyoung Yoon

Artist in Residence in Stockholm, 1 September –15 November 2026

Jiyoung Yoon is an artist based in Seoul, working primarily across the mediums of sculpture and video. Usually, the starting point of Yoon’s work is an encounter with something that gives her a peculiar sense of discomfort. This is often a social narrative or cultural assumption that people tend to take for granted. She seeks to reveal the ways in which individuals respond to their given environment and the attitudes they adopt in order to improve their circumstances. At the same time, she takes an interest in interiority, or, in other words, hidden inner structures.

She engages her audience by expanding personal narratives into broader social interpretations. In Choropēdáō (2024), she spoke of a shared heart that wishes for each other’s safety across boundaries of language and religion, while also exploring her unique approach to the medium of sculpture. Moving away from the individual narrations of her previous works, she is now developing a dialogue-based script about fear. While at IASPIS, she will advance this project alongside a performance in Berlin this November.

Jiyoung Yoon’s recent exhibitions include Seeing Things the Way We See the Moon (2025, daadgalerie, Berlin, Germany); Korea Artists Prize 2024 (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea); Yellow Blues_ (2021, One and J. Gallery); Young Korean Artists 2021 (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, Korea); This Event (2020, Seoul Museum of Art); and Night Turns to Day (2019, Art Sonje Center, Seoul, Korea). Yoon’s work has been acquired by major institutions including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea(MMCA), Seoul Museum of Art, Suwon Museum of Art, and KADIST.
