Claudia Del Fierro Gallegos och Ivo Vidal Páez

Studio grant holders in Malmö 1 January – 31 March 2019

Claudia Del Fierro (b. 1974, Santiago, Chile) works in a variety of media, including video, photography and installation. Her practice often involves actions, public interventions and filming. She uses performance as a way of participating in and pointing out situations, which results in moving images that are situated on the border between fiction and documentary. Her works are presented as multi-channel video installations. During her residency in Malmö she will install her works for the group exhibition “To Remember What is”, curated by Hans Carlsson, at Lund konsthall and participate in the exhibition’s public programme. She will also continue her research on documentality and film in the re-writing of history.

Del Fierro holds degrees in Fine Arts and Visual Arts from the University of Chile, and an MFA in Critical and Pedagogical Studies from Malmö Art Academy. Her recent projects include the video works “El Complejo, The Guerrilla, Remembrance” and “Liberated Territory” (2014-2017), the research project “La Fábrica” (2017) and the video installation “Avance Temporal” (2017). Her work has been exhibited at the Mercosul Biennial, the Havana Biennial and at a number of group and solo exhibitions in Latin America and Europe.

Ivo Vidal (1982) researches from the inside of the popular world, through performance, painting, sound and craft, in a vernacular language charged with political imagery and biographical references. Under different cultural traditions he resignifies the artistic research of the historical avant-garde, displacing it into local codes and the music industry, in exhibition spaces and cultural consumption, such as museums, galleries, record stores, bars and public squares. His work questions the scopes of a cultural movement integrated into social processes and the place of art within their context. Vidal has exhibited at artist-run spaces as well as more established institutions such as Gallery Gabriela Mistral and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Chile.
