The Possibility of Research – Lecture with Namita Wiggers & Benjamin Lignel

In this collaborative talk, Namita Wiggers and Benjamin Lignel will share their research process and methodology for Gender and Jewelry, and show how this collaborative project exemplifies ways in which craft history and theory are taught in the newly launched low-residency program at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.

NAMITA GUPTA WIGGERS (USA) is the Director of the MA in Critical and Historical Craft Studies at Warren Wilson College. She directs Critical Craft Forum,and is engaged in an ongoing research project on Gender and Jewelry with Benjamin Lignel. From 2004-14, Wiggers served as the Curator, then Chief Curator and Director of the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, OR. She lives in and works from Portland.

BENJAMIN LIGNEL (FRA) is an artist, writer and curator. He was the editor of Art Jewelry Forum between January 2013 and December 2016, and edited three books under AJF’s imprint, including the first book-length study of jewelry exhibition-making. Benjamin is guest teacher at the Akademie der Bildende Künste (Nürnberg), Alchimia (Florence), Warren Wilson College (Swannanoa) and is currently working with co-editor Namita Wiggers towards a publication on jewelry and gender. His work is represented in several public collections. He lives in Montreuil (France).
