Lina Lapelytè for Lilith Performance Studio.

In November, Lilith Performance Studio will finally present the mega-performance by the acclaimed Lithuanian artist Lina Lapelytė, which we were forced to cancel during the pandemic. The work is a site-specific performance where a group of tone-deaf singers play the leading role. They unite in a musical journey through a newly composed and choreographed work performed within an extensive installation.

Lina Lapelytė’s performance-based practice is rooted in music and flirts with popular culture and gender stereotypes. Lapelytė explores contemporary forms of performativity and describes her practice as composed improvisation, merging art, classical, and experimental music.

Lapelytė’s most renowned large-scale performance collaboration is the opera performance Sun & Sea, shown worldwide since 2016. In Sweden, it was presented at Malmö Konsthall in 2021. The work served as Lithuania’s national pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, where it was awarded the Golden Lion for best national pavilion.
