MULU OFFICE
Artist in Residence, Stockholm, 1 September–14 November 2025
MULU OFFICE is an artist collective and small-scale art publishing studio based in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Founded by visual artists Liu Chao-Tze and Zhou Junsheng in 2021, MULU has been actively experimenting with ways of transforming images into pages and integrating them with viewers’ reading behaviour through co-creation. For MULU, reading a book — especially an artist’s book — is one of the most direct and intimate ways for audiences to engage with artworks. A book is not only an independent object but also a container in which images — placed between pages — sequentially map a continuum of time and space that unfolds and connects with the viewer in the present.

During the IASPIS residency, MULU will continue developing their project CLOUDECK, which explores virtual space and the essence of looking through print media and publishing. At the same time, they will further work on their ongoing publication COOKBOOK, which explores publishing through the lens of food — one of the most essential, everyday aspects of life. The project is based on their belief in the similarity between cooking a dish and making a book: just as various ingredients shape flavours and cooking methods transform food into a dish, combinations of paper, binding, and printing shape the form and meaning of a book. While in Sweden, MULU will explore the local tradition of the kokbok, perhaps by focusing on iconic titles such as Vår kokbok (1951), to understand how the “taste of Sweden” has been represented through food and cooking — and reflect on how printed matter, like a cookbook, can serve as both a recipe and a record of cultural expression.
As members of MULU OFFICE, Liu Chao-Tze studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Zhou Junsheng studied at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
