Fanny Bylund

Guest accommodation in Paris, Swedish Institute, 2–29 October 2026

Fanny Bylund creates large abstract sculptures in clay. All are coiled and built from the bottom up. A shell holding air. Light is important, how it contrasts with shadow along the sharp edges and is absorbed by the raw, fired clay.

Inspiration comes from what she sees in the urban environment. Angles, corners, staircases. Her gaze zooms in on details, framing and isolating sections.

In Paris, Fanny plans to focus on Brutalist architecture. With a whole list of buildings to visit, she will travel crisscross through the suburbs and the city centre of Paris. Looking, photographing, sketching. Absorbing inspiration for future sculptures.

Fanny Bylund, b. 92, is educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Leksands folkhögskola, both specific in ceramics, and Nyckelviksskolan. This year she is preparing four solo exhibitions at art centres and galleries around Sweden: Tyresö konsthall, Nässjö konsthall, Arvika konsthall, and Galleri Moment in Ängelholm. Fanny is based in Stockholm and has recently started her own ceramics studio in the Stockholm suburb of Kärrtorp.
