Anna Nyberg
Artist in Residence at ISCP in New York, July-September 2025
Anna Nyberg (b. 1966, Stockholm)
When Anna Nyberg works with a painting practice that often results in large spatial installations. The painterly objects relate to the walls, ceilings and floors of the exhibition gallery – in the encounter with these, new spatiality’s emerge, both real and imaginary. Here, the body’s own perceptive ability to take in knowledge from its surroundings is challenged. By allowing the viewer to experience the place from the inside, she wants to create an awareness of our own existence.
In her work, Nyberg examines the gap between the inner and outer experience of reality. She seamlessly bends the physical presence of a place with the emotions and imagination of the inner experience. In her spatial installations, she wants to make this complex play visible and allow the viewer examine how things relate to each other. Where is the boundary between thought and matter?
