Ana Kun
Artist in residence in Umeå, 1 September—30 November 2025
Ana Kun is an artist living and working in Timisoara, Romania. Although she has conventional training in graphics and creative writing, her practice expands beyond its base of visual arts and literature into independent publication (zine making), vegan communal cooking and other collaborative practices with focus on life, care and liberation. She’s part of two collectives, Balamuc and Zephyr, and of several duos, most recently LuciAna, with her colleague Lucian Barbu, and a duo with professional cook Noemi Hugel focusing on food education and politics.
During her IASPIS residency she will continue working on her research into food education, expanding into the portrayal of animals and farms in children’s books illustration by accessing local resources such as the vegan community, the Department of Food and Nutrition of the Umeå University, etc. Kun also has a strong interest in communal working, cooking, printing, with a special focus on communal healing through traditional communal practices and as such she will contact local sewing circles, artists’ collectives and others to share time and knowledge.
Ana Kun has a diploma in graphics from the Faculty of Arts and Design and a masters in creative writing from the Faculty of Letters, West University of Timișoara. She exhibited in artists’ run spaces like Indecis (Timișoara, 2025, 2024, 2022, 2020), Spoiler (Berlin, 2025), Bunker (Chișinău, 2024), Ulična galerija (Belgrade, 2024), MATCA (Cluj-Napoca, 2023), Sandwich Offspace (Bucharest, 2022), Cazul 101 (Bucharest, 2023, 2022), Arta Non Stop (Sibiu, 2021), Miejsce Projektów Zachęty (Warsaw, 2021), White Cuib (Cluj-Napoca, 2021), Luis Leu (Karlsruhe, 2014) and participated in the Art Encounters Biennial (Timișoara, 2025, 2019) and Kyiv Biennial (Vienna, 2023).
