Residence permits
Citizens from EU, EEA and Schengen countries
EU citizens have the right to work, study and reside in Sweden if they fulfil the requirements. If you work, study or have the assets to support yourself, you have the right to reside in Sweden. You also have the right to start your own business in Sweden by registering it on verksamt.se.
Citizens from outside EU, EEA and Schengen countries
If you are not a citizen from the EU or EEA, you must apply for a residence permit to stay in Sweden for more than 90 days. You can apply for a residence permit at these locations:
- The Swedish embassy or consulate-general in the country where you are a citizen
- The Swedish Migration Agency for an extended visa for more than 90 days or for a residence permit for self-employed persons for more than three months.
