Crisis Grant

Grant to cover loss of income during the Corina/covid-19-crisis. The application deadline has expired.

The purpose of the grant is to compensate for professional artists’ loss of income as a result of non-payment of remuneration in connection with cancelled artistic commissions that were planned to take place between 12 March and 31 August 2020. The contract for such a commission must have been signed before 29 March 2020.

Crisis grants can also be applied for artistic commissions that would have occurred during the above-mentioned period but have been postponed until after 31 December 2020, if remuneration for the commission has not been paid or will not be paid during 2020.

Artists whose loss of income amounts to a minimum of 15,000 SEK exclusive VAT (alternatively 15,000 SEK gross in the case of non-payment of salary) are eligible to apply for the grant.

The grant can be applied for at one of three levels: 15,000, 30,000 or 50,000 SEK, based on documented loss of income. Applicants choose their desired level and document loss of income up to the sum applied for. The grant is tax free and does not have to be declared in your tax return.

Who can apply?

Professional artists in the fields of visual art, design, music, theatre, dance, new circus and film can apply for the grant. Only artists who are resident in Sweden and/or have their main artistic practice in Sweden can apply.

The Crisis Grant cannot be awarded for/to:
• a loss of income that has been compensated from another grant-making party
• anyone who is in receipt of unemployment benefit for more than half-time from the Swedish Public Employment Service during the period that the loss of income occurred or would have occurred
• anyone who is employed full-time or employed in music, theatre or dance alliances
• anyone who studies more than 50%
• anyone who during 2020 is in receipt of a state income guarantee, long-term grant or a five-year working grant.


The application should be made digitally on the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s website by logging in with your electronic identification. However, it is also possible to post your application to the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. You must attach documents verifying your loss of income; for example a contract concluded with an employer/commissioner. We accept attachments in the following file formats: pdf, word, jpg and png. The size of the attachments must not exceed 5 MB.

No work samples are required for this application.

When we have received and registered your application, a case number will be sent to your email address confirming receipt of your application.

When submitted, the application must be complete. No supplementary material will be accepted after the deadline.

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee must be in receipt of the application no later than 14 May 2020.  The application deadline has expired. All applications are being handled as prompt  as possible.   


Decisions about the Crisis Grant will be taken by the Director of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. We expect to be able to notify decisions before Midsummer (19 June 2020). The decision cannot be appealed.
