Xavier de Luca
(Barcelona, 1980) has focused his training in the field of contemporary art, photography and cultural management. Currently, he is the Chief Curator at Fundació Suñol, and the founder and director of Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies.

His interest in artistic creation in the Mediterranean region came after a sojourn in Tunis in 2004, where he collaborated on organising the Journées Cinématographiques of Carthage.

It was in Tunisia in 2005, where he, in collaboration with other artists, created Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies, an association that promotes artistic projects. Its main objectives are the mobility of young artists, encouraging creation, the sharing of artistic proposals and initiatives and their dissemination in the Mediterranean Region. Good examples are the artistic meeting “Perceptions de la Ville” (2006), and the ongoing project “Résidences de Création BCN>TNS>ALG”, launched in 2010.

This close bond with Tunisia has allowed Xavier de Luca to perform an analysis of the evolution of the cultural policies of this country through various scientific publications, to participate in panel discussions, focusing on the role played by several social and cultural initiatives and movements in the political changes that have taken place in Tunisia.

In the period 2012-2017, Jiser was actively collaborating with other associations and cultural operators in the Mediterranean Region in the platform TransCultural Dialogues. In November 2014, the platform organised the multidisciplinary festival “DJART ’14” in the city of Algiers. In September 2016, the TCD organised and coordinated the project “el Medreb”, which carried out research on abandoned buildings in the El Hamma neighbourhood of Algiers, investigating its social, architectural and historical contexts.

Since 2017, Jiser has a working space in the neighbourhood of Poblenou in Barcelona, where the public activities take place, gathering artists and cultural actors from the local scene with Mediterranean guests from other cities in the Mediterranean Region, and implementing programmes such as Taula / طاولة, or MURAL/LOCAL.
