Kathy Noble is responsible for running Performa’s curatorial program, including its biennial and other events. Noble has previously served as a curator at London’s Tate Modern, where she specialized in performance and time-based media; as a curator at Wysing Arts Center in Cambridge, England; and as the head of exhibitions at Nottingham Contemporary. She also organized the inaugural Art Night at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2016 and has written for numerous publications, such as Artforum, Frieze, and Mousse.

Kathy Noble has joined the New York-based performance art nonprofit Performa as curator and manager of curatorial affairs. In the newly created role, she will oversee all of Performa’s curatorial activities, including its year-round programming, books, and its city-spanning biennial, the next edition of which is scheduled for 2019. “Kathy will be somebody who looks at the total picture with me,” Performa founder and chief curator RoseLee Goldberg told ARTnews.

Previously, Noble worked as an interdisciplinary curator at Tate Modern in London, where she organized performance art programming including the “Tate Modern Live” series and “Art in Action” commissions in the museum’s Tanks. She has also worked at the Nottingham Contemporary and Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge, England, in addition to launching the ICA London’s inaugural “Art Night” festival, which commissioned site-specific works from the likes of Laure Prouvost, Joan Jonas and Jason Moran, and Xu Zhen/MadeIn Company. She has also written for publications including Artforum and Mousse.

Performa is a multidisciplinary non-profit arts organization dedicated to exploring the critical role of live performance in the history of twentieth-century art and to encouraging new directions in performance for the twenty-first century. Part of Performa’s mission is to present a biennial of visual art performance in New York City that illuminates the critical role of performance in the history of art as well as its enormous significance in the international world of contemporary art.
