Sandra Monterroso

Studio Grantholder in Umeå 1 - 30 November 2018.
Sandra Patricia Monterroso Juárez

Born 1974, Guatemala City.

Lives and works in Guatemala City.

I have two possibilities for my Iaspis residence:

1. Work with birch wood and some natural pigments used by Sámi culture.

2. Work with the Northern Lights in Umeå, doing a performance, video art. I would like to learn about the history from indigenous Sámi people, because they have arguably viewed the lights as agents of the supernatural. The Sámi people of northern Norway associated them with sound as well as light and depicted them on shamans’ drums used to communicate with the spirit world.
