Åsa Ersmark

Studio grant holder in Stockholm 1 October 2017 - 31 March 2018
Åsa Ersmark (b. 1981 in Stockholm) educated at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm.

Åsa Ersmark’s works that are not medium-specific explore the concept of freedom, sexuality and the subconscious’s place and explosiveness in a patriarchal and consumption-driven age. She works with film, installation, photography, handmade objects, animation and the human body. Objects and processes appear as moving sculptures in works that are both “static and mobile, sculptural and animated, physical and transitory”.

During her Iaspis residency she plans to complete a psychedelic 16 mm film, an invocation of the goddess Hecate.

Ersmark’s work has been presented at the Tribeca Film Festival and Microscope Gallery in New York, and Moderna Museet in Stockholm. During September-November 2018 Uppsala Art Museum will hold a solo exhibition of her work.
