Lars Brunström

Studio grant holder in Stockholm 1 October 2017 - 31 March 2018
Lars Brunström works with installations and mobile sculptures of animals and nature. Characterised by authenticity, his works are both credible and accurate, even though they are derived from our shared imagination and preconceived opinions about animals. A confusion of these truths forms the basis of the works and furnishes them with a slightly evocative tone, which facilitates recognition although not necessarily in a conscious way. The sculptures move very slowly, in their own indolent rhythm, providing a distorted representation of how their natural models move. These fragments of landscapes, dreamed or real, strive to visualise the world around us via fables, scenarios, this warped mirror image of a both rejected and glorified nature. The sculptural space can serve as a recollection, a visceral memory that is awoken in the dialogue between the work and the viewer.
