Jumana Emil Abboud
(b.1971) uses drawing, video, performance and text to navigate themes of memory, loss, and resilience, with a particular interest in Palestinian folklore, myths and oral histories.

Abboud is currently preparing for a first major solo exhibition in Scandinavia, to be launched in spring of 2017 at Bildmuseet in Umeå.
Abboud has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals during the last decade. Since 2008 her work has been included in: Women Artists, MAMA (Musée national d’art moderne et contemporain d’Alger) (2008), Algiers; Intimate Narratives - Masarat Palestine, Les Halles des Schaerbek, Brussels (2008); Broodthaers and Friends, Leuven (2008); Palestine, la création dans tous ses états, the Institute du Monde Arabe, Paris (2009); Sentences on the Banks, Darat al Funun, Amman (2010); Scènes du Sud II – Méditerranée Orientale, Carré d’Art–Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes (2008); Acción!MAD–International Festival of Performance Art of Madrid (2010); The One Who Knows That Knows, Still Does Not Know How to Know, Gallery Nova, Zagreb, Croatia (2009); Smuggling Lemons, Oslo Kunstforening; Paper Feather Sugar Water, Foundation 3,14, Bergen, Norway (2011); Second World, Steirischer Herbst Festival, Graz, Austria (2011); Framed/Unframed: Changing Representations of Woman in the Palestinian visual arts, Birzeit University Ethnographic and Art Museum, Birzeit, Palestine (2011); Points of Departure, Al-Mahatta Gallery, Ramallah, and the Institute of Contemporary Art , London (2013); Bodies that Matter, Galeri Manâ, Istanbul (2013); Haunted  Springs and Water Demons in Palestine, Kunstraum, London and BALTIC, Gateshead (2016); O Whale Don’t Swallow our Moon!, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in the framework of Qalandiya International III, Ramallah (2016). Festivals include: the 53rd and 56th Biennale di Venezia (2009 + 2015), the 11th International Istanbul Biennial (2009), the 10th Sharjah Biennial, United Arab Emirates (2011), Meeting Point 6, Beirut Art Center, Beirut (2011); and The Jerusalem Show and Qalandiya International, Palestine (2012 & 2016).

Based in Jerusalem, she works at Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art, in addition to teaching at the International Academy of Art Palestine and at Bezalel Academy of Art & Design.
