Cop Shiva

Grant holder in Göteborg 3 April - 28 June 2017

I am an artist who uses photography as means of expression. In my practice I document the complexity of rural and urban India, focusing on people and portraiture as a genre, fascinated with the idea of masquerade and the roles people play in public and private. My portfolio includes intimate portraits of urban migrants, people of alternative sexuality, street performers and others living in the hinterland of urban and rural conflict. I capture the diversity of humans who live on the edge and represent the spirit of our times.

I have been coordiantor  of the art space and residency 1Shanthiroad in Bangalore, India (www.1shanthiroad.com) for over 10 years, where I have managed more than 100 exhibitions and art events, and assisted more than 50 international artists in residency. Besides, In 2001 I joined Karnataka Police Department.

My works are represented by Gallery Sumukha in Bangalore (www.sumukha.com) and Art Heritage Gallery in New Delhi (www.artheritagegallery.com).I have had the opportunity to present my work in 7 individual shows in well reputed galleries and several group shows, nationally and internationally, including Chobi Mela in Bangladesh, India Art Fair and Kochi Biennale, and I have had the opportunity to present my work in 7 individual shows in well reputed galleries.
