The work of Nicoline van Harskamp addresses the function and power of the spoken word, and its ability to influence perception and shape thought, both of which are instrumental to politics. Her ongoing inquiries into a wide range of topics – techniques for listening to speech, the structure of political autobiography, the potential of failed public debate, the history of anarchism,  the qualities of English spoken as a second language – tend to form the ground work for her performance and film scripts. She develops her pieces in close collaboration with actors and audiences.
Her most recent project, the film Yours in Solidarity, addressing the contemporary history of anarchism through a correspondence archive, was presented in different stages of completion at D+T Project in Brussels, Hillary Crisp Gallery in London, the MUAC in Mexico City, the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Manifesta 9 in Genk, the 2012 Shanghai Biennale, Rotor/Steirischer Herbst in Graz and Extra City in Antwerp.
Any other Business, a  scripted conference of 6 hours that was performed for a live audience in 2009 and premiered as a film in 2011, was presented at Performa 11 in New York, the Newtopia Biennial in Mechelen and the SMBA in Amsterdam in 2011.
Presentations of other works were at the Kadist Foundation in Paris, the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Recent live pieces were staged at Witte de With in Rotterdam, the New Museum in New York, the Serralves Foundation in Porto and the Kaaitheater in Brussels. Nicoline van Harskamp was a resident artist at, among others, Platform Garanti in Istanbul, Christiania Researcher in Residence Program in Denmark and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. In 2009 she won the Prix de Rome, the national prize for young artists in the Netherlands. Nicoline van Harskamp was born in the Netherlands in 1975 and lives and works in Amsterdam
