International exchange within dance

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee provides financial support for international cultural exchange. The intention is to present Swedish art for an international audience and to increase the exchange between Swedish and international artists. If you have been invited with a performance, a conference or a collaborative project abroad, you may apply for financial support. You may also be eligible for financial support if you wish to invite international artists for collaborations in Sweden. We allocate approximately 800 000 SEK every year for cultural exchange support within dance. The amounts vary from approximately 5,000 to 40,000 SEK.

Cultural exchange abroad
If you have been invited abroad for a guest performance, a tour or a performance at a festival, or similar, you can apply for financial support for, primarily, costs for travel and transportation (of props etc.). You cannot receive support for production costs. In general, we assume that the international organiser/collaborative partner by whom you have been invited will provide your fee and subsistence (accommodation and expenses).
If you have been invited to participate in a collaborative project abroad you can apply for financial support for travel and accommodation costs. You cannot receive financial support for salaries/fees. Your stay abroad must entail a concrete collaboration with one or more local artists.
You can also apply for support for, for example, studying with a professional or practice abroad. The financial support may cover costs for travel, participation fees and accommodation.
If you have been invited to participate in a seminar, conference, or similar, abroad, you can apply for financial support for travel, participation fees and accommodation.
If you wish to travel abroad on your own initiative (for example, to visit a festival as a member of the audience, pursue research or participate in a course) you should instead apply for a travel grant.

Cultural exchange in Sweden
You can apply for financial support for inviting prominent international artists or other practitioners to Sweden for collaborations and exchanges of ideas here. For example, it can be joint preparatory work for a performance, or an actual performance. The focus should be on the benefit the Swedish artist derives from the collaboration. You cannot receive support for bringing a finished international production to Sweden for a guest performance.
You can also apply for support for inviting international participants to festivals, seminars, conferences, etc. The arrangement should, generally, be open for others than those who organise it. You can receive support for travel and accommodation and, but not for fees or production costs. Institutions acting as organisers cannot receive financial support.

Application and decision
You can apply for financial support for international cultural exchange four times a year (See Ansökningstider [Application deadlines]). Applications shall be submitted on special forms or on our website. If you apply for support for cultural exchange abroad you have to attach a copy of your invitation. In your application you should, as concretely as possible, state the purpose of the exchange, how you plan to realise it and what the expected result will be. Please check your description of the exchange to see that all relevant information is included: what the purpose is, and how, when, where and why you want to do it.
