Residence grant to New York and Movement Research

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Dance Programme has a long-term collaboration with the American organisation Movement Research, offering a two-month residence grant in New York for a dance/choreographic artist.
Movement Research (MR) is one of the most important venues for contemporary dance and choreography in New York. The artist-run organisation offers a platform for daily training and workshops, arranges several festivals, and has an elaborate research residency and exchange programme with a large international presence. In addition, MR focuses on artist initiatives and is a place for critical dialogue and contemporary discourse in the field of dance.
The residency grant comprises a tax-free grant of SEK 46,000 that is intended to cover subsistence and travel, studio rehearsal time and the possibility to take classes at MR. The grant holder will get housing during the residency period. Insurance is not included in the grant.
The exact dates for the two-month residency are decided by the dance artist and Movement Research, depending on the needs of the grant holder. During the summer there is the possibility of more studio time than otherwise and a rich selection of classes at Summer Melt. During the rest of the year the dance scene is vibrant, there are more performances, classes are given continually, but the artist has less access to studio time.
