Residence grant to Berlin and Uferstudios

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Dance Programme has a long-term collaboration with German Uferstudios, offering a two-month residency grant in the autumn for a dance artist. The grant provides access to a first-rate studio at Uferstudios, accommodation and a grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee that covers subsistence, travel etc.

Uferstudios is an independent and self-financing organisation that officially opened in 2010 and is housed in what was once a maintenance facility for the BVG, Berlin’s public transport company. The garages have been transformed into 14 spacious and first-rate studios, offices, ateliers, a media library, a communal kitchen and an open courtyard. The site’s past remains visible, and the industrial vibe can still be felt. Uferstudios is a new, vital and important venue for contemporary dance in Berlin for artistic production, education, information etc. A meeting place for dance artists, students and teachers from the Inter-University Centre for Dance, the influential dance organisations Tanzfabrik Berlin, ada Studio and Tanzbüro Berlin are also located here.

Uferstudios aims to cater to the needs of the artist-in-residence and create a flexible residency. This may involve meetings, mounting shows, organising discussions or dealing with certain technical issues pertaining to production.

The artist-in-residence will have access to a studio at Uferstudios for two months and a fully-equipped apartment. The Swedish Arts Grants Committee will provide the artist with a tax-free grant of SEK 34,000 that is intended to cover travel, subsistence, performance tickets etc. Insurance is not included in the grant.
The international dance festival Tanz im August coincides with the residency period.
