Anna-Karin Rasmusson

Studio Grant holder in Stockholm 1 April - 30 September 2018

Anna-Karin Rasmusson
was born in 1983 and grew up in Kungsängen. She received her Master’s degree from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm in 2016.
Holes, wounds, vertigo and expanded perceptions of the world that make themselves felt and enter us.
Exaggeration and repetition as a method.
Slapstick without the laughs and clumsy naive attempts.
To feel something and succeed in transferring this to someone else.

Rasmusson works primarily with animation and video, with painting and her everyday life as the basis of her art. Using her own body, she performs in the projection beam of her previous animation, thus creating two layers in the image. The result is a multifaceted composition that adds something new, both for herself and the viewer.
Her expressive video works focus on the roles of women, the psyche, the body, and what it means to be human.

Rasmusson’s work has been exhibited at numerous venues, including the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm; Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; GIBCA Extended, Gothenburg; Fafa Gallery, Helsinki; Delicatessen Zeeburg, Amsterdam; Shunt. London.
In 2016 Anna-Karin Rasmusson was awarded the Bernadotte Grant. Other awards include the Anders Sandrews Foundation Grant and the KE17 Prize.
