Visual and Applied Arts

The Visual Arts Fund provides visual artists and designers with support in order to enable them to continue and develop their artistic practice. Through the means of Iaspis, the Board supports Swedish artists' international contacts. The main part of the funds allocated by the Visual Arts Fund is dedicated to working grants.

The Visual Arts Fund's grants are disbursed by the parliament. The parliament and the government have stipulated guidelines for the allocation of the funds. Briefly, the guidelines state that the guiding principle in the awarding of grants is the artistic quality of the applicant's work, the range of his or her artistic practice and the need for financial support. All decisions on grants and allowances are made by the Board of the Visual Arts Fund, whose members are appointed by the government. Most are visual artists or designers.

The Board of the Visual Arts Fund regularly reconsiders the various grants and implements alteration when it finds it necessary.
